Harry Orme is a performer, composer and educator based in Leeds. As a singer-songwriter, he has toured across the UK and Europe and has opened for some of his favourite artists (including Big Thief, Scott Matthews, Tiny Ruins, Sara Watkins, Ciaran Lavery and Emily Portman). He has also had the pleasure of collaborating as a sideman/arranger with some of his favourite Yorkshire-based songwriters (including Chris Brain, Elanor Moss, George Boomsma and The Silver Reserve). He has been part of the improvised music scene in Leeds since moving here in 2010, during which time he has shared bills with Mike Walker, Iain Dixon, Craig Handy, Nikki Iles, Iain Ballamy, Stan Sulzmann, Stian Carstensen, Mark Nightingale and Clark Tracey.

As well as writing music for his own projects he has also work as a freelance composer and arranger – a couple of recent highlights include being commissioned to write a piece for the Ilkley Literature Festival in 2021 and arranging the strings for George Boomsma’s 2021 EP Chinatown (as well as his forthcoming LP).

Alongside his work as a performer/composer, education and community music have been a large part of his practice for much of the last decade. As well as teaching guitar/composition privately, since 2013 he has been privileged to work with Live Music Now to bring workshops and participatory performances into SEND schools and homes for those living with dementia.

He graduated with distinction from the MMus programme at Leeds Conservatoire in 2021, during which he was lucky enough to study with Stuart McCallum (The Breath, The Cinematic Orchestra), Lauren Kinsella (Snowpoet, Seafarers) and Dave Hamblett (The Magic Lantern, Samantha Whates, Josienne Clarke). His main area of research for his master’s degree was the integration of procedural/algorithmic composition techniques into his practice as a singer-songwriter.
