With longer days now upon us and warmer weather on the way, it’s always a great time to sample the Great Outdoors in Otley. We have a whole section dedicated to things to do in the open air this Spring in Otley. There’s a great video there for inspiration too. You can see it by visiting this link. Why not visit us a Make a Day of It?
Elsewhere, we have another packed month of shows and events and you can see all those on our events calendar here. Here’s a choice selection of the best things to see and do in Otley this month.
Otley Coffee Festival by Otley Coffee Culture
One of the biggest events taking place this month is the return of Otley Coffee Culture’s Otley Coffee Festival. Held on Saturday April 27th at Otley Parish Church there will be engaging talks, the chance to meet and chat to roasters and, of course, the opportunity to sample lots of coffee along the way!
Learn the story of Jennie Lee
It’s so popular it’s returns only, but if you can buy, steal, or borrow a ticket, head to the Courthouse on Saturday April 6th for a theatrical telling of the life story of Jennie Lee – the radical MP you’ve never heard of. In 1929, she left her coal mining family in Scotland to sit at Westminster before she was even able to vote herself – and that was just the beginning!
Jon Doran leads new wave of folk charge
Part of the new wave of folk, Jon Doran & The Northern Assembly are a ground-breaking new collaboration that seek to capture the excitement that lies within traditional song and breathe new life into old stories from the British Isles. They also happen to be playing on Sunday April 7th at Folk at the Farrier, at the Horse & Farrier pub. A show not to be missed.
Green Fair set for go
Join in the fight against climate change tomorrow on Saturday April 13th at Otley Green Fair. Taking place at Otley Courthouse from 10am to 4pm, the fair will have organisations and groups who can give information and advice, as well as help you to make decisions about how you can become more active and involved in helping with the well-being of the planet. There will also be stalls featuring local crafts and a raffle with some great prizes.
The return of Hi-De-Hi
One of TV’s most popular sit-coms Hi-De-Hi gets a renewal of life later this month thanks to the Otley Players putting on three performances set around the goings on at the legendary TV holiday camp. Performances are at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday April 20th and 2pm on Sunday April 21st.
Farmer’s Market and Crafts Fair
Sunday April 28th is the last Sunday of the month which means it’s time for both the Farmer’s Market in Market Place and the Crafts Fair at the Courthouse. Both showcase some great local products with the market starting at 9am and the fair an hour later. Both are done by 1pm!
