Trails, tunes and tradition this June in Otley

Wow – what a busy month we have for you this June. Over the course of the 30 days of the June, we’d find it hard to fit much more in.

One of the highlights of the month is the fabulous Otley Carnival. Held on Saturday June 17, this celebration of the town and its residents is aimed at giving local children a day to remember, while raising funds for local charities. The parade starts at 12.30 and passes through town before heading to the Showground for more fun and laughter.

A week later it’s the start of the Otley Walking Festival with daily walks to suit allcomers over the course of the following ten days. From two feet, we head to two wheels thanks to the Otley Family Cycling Fun Day on Garnetts Field on Sunday June 25. Three days later, it’s the pros’ turn on Wednesday June 28 with the Otley Cycle Races taking place on Wednesday and carrying on the long tradition of world class racing in Otley for both men and women, boys and girls. Things get going just after 5pm and the roads re-open from 10pm.

Looking for something to do at night? Fear not, we have not one, but two music festivals starting this month. First up is the Otley Music Festival, a community festival set up to celebrate the wealth of musical talent in the town and held from Friday June 23 to Sunday July 2. The last few days see a short overlap with Otley Live – Music & Arts in a Market Town (most events are also individually listed). This multi-discipline festival features music, dance and more and is held from June 30 to July 9.

With so many of our events taking place in the beautiful Wharfedale countryside this month, it seems timely to let you know we’ve just released our latest promo video, Make It A Day For The Great Outdoors featuring running, crown bowls, rowing and more. Sunday Jazz at TnT

If you’re looking for something a little more sedate than the festival action, there’s laidback Jazz Upstairs at Tapas and Tunes this Sunday, courtesy of fantastic Leeds Conservatoire jazz sensations Panos 4. The fun starts from noon. Contact the restaurant to book.

To The Northern Star album launch

Join celebrated early music band Flauguissimo for the release of their latest album ‘To the Northern Star’, featuring chamber works for flute by eclectic Swedish baroque master Johan Helmich Roman. The performance takes place on Sunday June 18 at 3pm at the Parish Church and features our very own Asuka Sumi (pictured) as a guest musician.

A triple dose of comedy

TV comedian Rosie Jones – famed for her appearances on Trip Hazard and Mission: Accessible – is embarking on her first ever UK tour this month. The show, Triple Threat, makes a stop at Otley Courthouse on June 8. At the time of publication tickets were selling fast, so click here to book if you’re interested.

And there’s more

Elsewhere this month we have the unique Exhibition on Screen – Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition at the Courthouse on June 9, while Sunday June 25 sees our monthly Farmers’ Market in Market Place and the Craft Fair at the Courthouse.
