We’ve a packed calendar this month in Otley
Welcome to October – another month with a packed events calendar for Otley.
This month sees the second edition of a festival that is unique to the town, The Wildlife Arts Festival, that will feature talks by the like of author and conservationist Simon Barnes (above, centre) and Blue Planet’s Ian McCarthy, as well as a full day exhibition and various talks. You can read more about the event here.
October also sees the continuation of the fabulous new Folk at the Farrier series of gigs where renowned local musician and micro-brewer Paul Briscoe has revived the stage at the Horse & Farrier pub. On the 15th, headliners are Jacob & Drinkwater (above, left), while on the 28th, Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage top the bill.
The weekend of the 28th is, of course, Halloween weekend and there’s a special gig by the Otley Ukulele Orchestra at the Otley Social Club called Spookulele. Dressing up is not essential but highly recommended.
For details of these and other events, please see our Events listings page.

Poetry in a Normal fashion
One of the country’s best comedy scriptwriters Henry Normal is heading to Otley this week. The long-time collaborator of Steve Coogan and Caroline Aherne has packed up his scriptwriting pen and replaced it with that of a poet. He’ll be bringing his work to the Courthouse on October 21.

Friday Night Live for 18s and under
Otley’s only regular bands night for 18s and under sees its fourth edition on October 7 when local bands Gravehouses and Backspace (above) take the mic at the Social Club. Tickets cost just £3.50.
And there’s more….
The Otley Taps is having its own Octoberfest complete with Oompah Band on October 14, while Ben Pearson of Channel 5’s Police Interceptors show is in town and on stage at Otley Courthouse for An Evening With… on October 13.
Don’t forget too, our Farmer’s Market takes place on Sunday October 30 in Market Place from 9am to 1pm. It’s packed with local produce from surrounding farms, so why not pop down?
