Six weeks of summer fun in Otley

Looking for things to do with the kids during the six-week holiday? There’s loads to do in Otley. Here’s just a small selection of ways to spend the summer with them.

Enjoy the Breeze events

Every Wednesday throughout August, the Breeze Leeds team will be at Market Place offering a series of FREE fun activities for kids from 11am-3pm where there will be a selection of arts and crafts activities and sports games for children and young people aged 2-13. Activities on the day may vary and all children and young people must be accompanied by an adult.

Take our Riverside Trail

Find out a host of fun facts around Wharfemeadows Park by taking on our Family Riverside activity trail. Pick up a leaflet from the Council offices (Unit 11 Orchard St, Otley LS21 3NX), or download a PDF version here.

Row down the river
Out by the river? Jump on one of the Otley Boats and head upstream. Pass under Otley’s iconic bridge in your row boat or pedalo and look out for Daubenten’s bats that nest under the bridge as you pass through.

Gallow’s Hill

Gallow’s Hill Nature Reserve is one of Otley’s hidden gems. Tucked away by the river off Pool Road, it has a rather grizzly history as the place one of our last town criers was hung (hence the name Gallow’s) but was also formerly a waste plant. That fertile soil means it’s a great place for plants to grow and there are loads of ponds to look out for wildlife too.

Head to the Chevin

The Chevin has much to offer for all the family but a few special ones the kids will love are the geology trail, the hidden maze and the ice cream van at Surprise View. Don’t forget too the Forest School which has some holiday clubs throughout August.
