Otley’s year of cycling

Otley Cycle Races will be back in town on Wednesday July 3

With three world-class cycling events taking place in Otley this year, the town is living up to the title given by ITV4 commentators on coverage of last year’s Tour de Yorkshire when it was declared “the UK’s cycling capital”.
This year, the Tour de Yorkshire will again be coming through the town on Stage Four (the final day) of the men’s race on Sunday May 5. Stage Two of the men’s race and Stage One of the women’s race (both on Friday May 3) will also come close to Otley as riders pass through Pool in Wharfedale on the way to Leathley.

In the height of summer, the Otley Cycle Races will take place on Wednesday July 3. The evening races remain one of the most important events in British cycling, with past winners including the likes of the great Mark Cavendish.

The last days of September will see the UCI World Cycling Championships come to Yorkshire, with the women’s elite and men’s elite races coming through Otley on Saturday September 28 and Sunday September 29 respectively.
With all this cycling, we are looking to add a dedicated section to the Visit Otley website, so look out for that over the coming weeks. Alongside Otley Pub Club and Otley Cycling Club, we also have some plans for doing more in Otley around the UCI event, so please stay tuned.
