Summer bus service to Chevin returns for 2026

Otley residents and visitors are once again being offered the chance to enjoy one of the town’s most spectacular beauty spots, thanks to the return of a free Sunday minibus service to Surprise View on Otley Chevin.

Following a successful pilot scheme last summer, Otley Town Council is bringing back the popular service from Sunday, June 14, running every Sunday until and including August 16.

The free hourly minibus will depart from Otley Bus Station, Stand 5, with the first service leaving at 10am, followed by departures at 11am, 12 noon and 1pm. Return journeys from Surprise View will operate on the half hour at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

The initiative aims to make the Chevin more accessible to everyone, particularly those who may struggle with the steep climb to the top. Visitors can choose to enjoy the panoramic views from Surprise View and explore the surrounding area before catching the return bus, or take a leisurely downhill walk back into Otley town centre.

The service is expected to be particularly beneficial for people with limited mobility, families with young children and anyone wanting to experience the Chevin without tackling the uphill journey. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome on board.

The minibus will also stop at the top Danefield car park on East Chevin Road, subject to driver agreement.

Otley Town Council has thanked First Bus for its support in allowing the service to use Otley Bus Station free of charge.
