Otley Show 2019 @ The Showground

Otley Show is held usually on the Saturday, prior to the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend in May, and is the first major agricultural show of the season.

It is thought to be the oldest one day show in the country and is set in the picturesque Wharfe Valley. It attracts more than 12,000 visitors.

As well as exhibitors of livestock, handicrafts and floral displays, there are over 100 trade stands with a wide range of produce and gifts to suit all everyone.

A summer street parade

 

Otley Carnival is a day-long celebration of the town and its residents aimed at giving local children a day to remember. The event is held on the third Saturday of June every year.

The event starts with a parade comprising numerous colourful floats, walking tableaux, various bands and a variety of vehicles. It wends its way through the town centre and finishes on the Otley Show Field at Bridge End.

Here the fun continues with sideshows and funfair activities. The Carnival Queen and her team are crowned and the entertainment is provided by bands and speciality acts which vary each year.

Otley Parish Church will host the third annual Otley Flower Festival in June. The festival – free to enter, donations for charity welcome – will feature contributions from Otley primary schools as well as local Brownies groups.

Refreshments, including tea and coffee, plus a plant stall will be available over the three days.

Come to Otley in the middle of July for a slice of foodie heaven. Otley is known for its artisan produce from hand-kneaded bread to homemade chocolates and there’ll be even more on display at the Otley Food & Drink Festival.

Organised by Visit Otley and Otley Town Partnership, the festival will feature a wonderful array of more than 50 stalls selling good quality, locally sourced products, as well as a full programme of events including a cookery theatre with demonstrations by local chefs from within Otley and Otley Farmers’ Market.

Throughout the day there will also be food and wine tastings, local breweries, live music, children’s entertainment and much, much more. A tasty day for all the family. Come along and join in the fun!!

Otley Vintage Transport Extravaganza 2019 @ Knotford Nook

Rev up your engines and come down to Otley to have a blow out at the annual Vintage Transport Extravaganza. Held every September on fields on Pool Road, there are more than 500 vehicles on display, from push bikes to huge steam engines.

Thanks to bags of entertainment, children’s attractions and stalls, it is one of the most popular events in Otley’s calendar, attracting several thousand visitors each year.

All profits from the Extravaganza go to charity.

Otley’s Victorian Fayre is a magical event which is held every year in the run up to Christmas and gets everyone who visits into the Festive spirit.

Shopkeepers and stall holders in Otley dress in period costumes the local schools bring their children, also dressed in Victorian period dress, into town to sing Christmas carols.

The atmosphere takes a step back to a former era when the main roads in the centre of Otley are closed to accommodate children’s rides and amusements, street organs and entertainment, Morris dancers, choirs, craft and gift stalls, food sellers and other events.
